Senior Accountant

A local company is seeking a Senior Accountant that will be responsible for maintaining the general ledger and closing the US books on a monthly basis. Accountability & Scope: The Senior Staff Accountant will be primarily responsible for the month-end and day-to-day maintenance of the general ledger. In this role, they will work closely with the Accounting Manager to ensure that all accounting transactions are accurately recorded and that the monthly financial statements are prepared in accordance with GAAP. This is a hands-on role, including reviewing fixed assets, creating elimination entries, inter-company accounting and month end accruals. In addition, they will assist the Accounting Manager with ad hoc projects.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the general ledger on a daily basis.
  • Review daily cash activity and provide cash forecasts to management as necessary.
  • Monthly close duties will include: Reconcile foreign currency cash accounts as well as investment accounts. Review fixed asset activity for the month. Assess accruals for bonus, contractors, and other services. Reconcile revenue and deferred revenue to the general ledger. Allocate certain expenses based on company headcount. Reconcile Inter -company transactions and create elimination entries. Ensure all reconciliations agree to the general ledger.
  • Assist with documenting and testing internal controls to implement Sarbanes-Oxley in the Finance department
  • Assist with annual audit and tax filings.
  • Handle special projects and analysis on an as-needed basis.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 4+ years experience, preferably with a high growth company.
  • Knowledge of large general ledger systems, preferably Oracle, or JDE
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with a heavy emphasis on Excel
  • Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles.
  • Strong work ethic, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and over achieve.

Essential Job Functions

  • Review daily and monthly performance numbers for several investment partnerships and managed accounts that trade in equities, currency forward contracts, and futures.

  • Experience managing a small team of 2-3 individuals

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience (3 yr +) with barra or other portfolio analytics tools.
  • Have experience on programming languages, statistical packages and databases, including matlab/SAS/S-Plus, SQL or C#,
  • Have portfolio management experience.
  • Strong communication skills.
